    Cocktails and Curry

    The season is starting this weekend and even though the village is still quiet at the Avalon we are busy busy. The week starting the 16th of December we will be doing Cocktails and Curry !  Cocktails on Tuesday the 17th and Curry on Thursday the 19th.



    We have a few new beasties on our cocktail menu this winter thanks to our friends at Rustic reserve, as well as the classic Avalon blinders! Cocktail night is from 6pm to 9pm, all drinks are on  two for one. We serve free food that changes every week. This week I’m planning a selection of Tapas and some chicken wings I have been perfecting all summer!

    When it comes to cocktails I am a traditionalist and love the Difford guide. He has written (in my opinion) the bible of cocktails! Some people still rave about the Savoy guide but for me Difford is the man, so if you are thinking of a Christmas present for cocktail maker in your life this book is a god send!



    Curry nights are a big deal here at the Avalon, once the season starts proper we will be doing three a week, some weeks are already fully booked months in advance. An Avalon curry night starts at 7:30pm with 4 different Indian, Pakistani and Nepali street food starters,  the mains are served at 8pm as a buffet, there are nine dishes from all over the sub continent, there are plenty of vegan options as well as Pakistani and Afghani meat dishes, rice, Naan and Lassi.

    I have spent years travelling around the sub continent and picked up recipes along the way. If you want to learn how to cook proper Indian I would really recommend spending a decade pottering around the villages and poking into the little smokey kitchens of the sub continent. The food cooked in these basic little kitchens and the people cooking it are amazing. If you don’t have a decade I recommend Madhur Jaffrey, she is the most accessible and poetic curry writer I have ever found! Again perfect Christmas present material!
