Pirin is the most Alpine region in Bulgaria with young pointy mountains that rise well above the tree line. People have been skiing in Bansko for years but Bansko is a young resort, built in 2003 and kitted out with top of the range lifts. Bansko boasts some of the most comprehensive snow making infrastructure in the world.
ALPINE SKIING IN BANSKO
Piste skiing in Bansko covers most levels of skier perfectly. Bansk has 75km of piste with something for everyone. The meadows at Chalin Valog and Banderitsa are ideal for beginners. The big runs under the Banderitsa 1 and 2 lifts are host to International races as part of the world cup circuit.
FREE RIDE
This is my thing! I have spentĀ over 25 years living in ski resorts most of that has been spent exploring the back country! Bansko offers a great selection of back and side country skiing.Ā With few people and a huge amount of terrainĀ Bansko is a little paradise for free ride skiing.
If you are willing to tour there are unlimited lines to be had.
March and April are the best times for powder with vast amounts of fresh snow.

JUMP PARK
Bobby and Ivan who manage the jump park start putting it all together as soon as there is enough snow, this is normally around mid-Feb. Amazing jumps for every level of skier and boarder. The jumps are big, the rails great, and the big air huge!
CROSS COUNTRY
Bansko might only be a small town but we have our moments of glory!Ā Irina Nikulchina, a local girl, overcame all obstacles in 2002 to win a Bronze medal in the 10 km Pursuit competition at the Salt Lake City Winter Olympics. Ā Irina has dedicated a huge amount of her time and effort over the last 10 years trying to promote winter sports for the young people of Bansko. Purely due to her efforts Bansko has hosted world-class international events for Biathlon including the European championships.
Thanks to Irina the Bansko town hall and the ski concessionaire have built 12km of biathlon track and shooting range. Ā This is open to the public. If you would like to use it speak to the cash desk or ski hire office in the main gondola building.
